Our speaker, Olivia Fernandes - a 17 year veteran of international humanitarian programs, most recently in South East Asia and then in the civil war in Myanmar and the civil war in South Sudan, before returning home briefly after 2 years overseas. The list of dangerous places she has survived in is quite long.
Olivia exudes humanity and care as she tells of her experiences such as bringing Americans to see "her" village in Vietnam where agent orange was dropped and every child born there in that era suffers extreme abnormalities which resulted in grants of $10 million to look after these poor people, participation as the only woman in discussions to bring improvements when she was not welcome to speak and training for removing landmines, fighting and for surviving kidnapping.
She was recently enthusiastically received by history classes in both Oshawa and Whitby. She is an unusually dedicated and captivating woman that everyone will want to hear.
